If you’ve never been to Java Moose in Saint John, you might be surprised. I definitely was. For the longest time, I thought it was just a local version of Tim Hortons: grab a coffee, maybe a muffin, and go. But I finally stopped in after yoga one day at the Prince William Street location and realized it’s got way more personality, and way more whipped cream.

Java Moose is more like a Starbucks, but with a local twist and drinks that feel like actual desserts. We’re talking Sticky Toffee Caramel Lattes and Chocolate Peanut Butter Mochas all made from quality Arabica beans. They don’t just slap a flavour label on it either. The drinks are genuinely indulgent, and everything’s made in-house, including the fancy toppings.

Now, one of my favourite treats (and yes, I call it a treat because it feels like one) is grabbing a large S’mores Campfire Mocha, with whipped cream piled on top, and taking a slow wander around Uptown. It feels like I’m spoiling myself, and for about 10 bucks (including a tip), it’s a lot more satisfying than most things in that price range. (Full disclosure: my usual morning coffee is from a box I get at the local Giant Tiger. Best deal in town. So this is a major upgrade.)
From Lineup to Lounge Time
Java Moose in Saint John does get busy, especially around noon, on weekends, and when the cruise ships are in town. The outdoor seating fills up quickly, and you’ll probably find a bit of a lineup inside too. But honestly, it’s worth the wait. I’m always impressed by how calm the baristas are, even during the midday chaos. They keep things moving without making anyone feel rushed.
And once you’ve ordered? You’re welcome to stay as long as you like. The café has way more seating than you’d expect, with cozy nooks and soft chairs spread throughout. There’s even a big west-facing window that catches all the afternoon sun. It’s hands-down the best seat in the house. I swear they should take reservations for it.
Whether you're heading there post-yoga, meeting up with a friend, or just need to break out of your routine, Java Moose is the kind of place that makes Uptown Saint John feel extra welcoming. It’s local, it’s cozy, and it’s the perfect little luxury when you need one.
