This weekend, Saint John’s art scene is getting a shake-up—and a pint. The Art Assembly, a brand-new collective dedicated to putting local artists in the spotlight, is hosting its first-ever pop-up art show at Picaroons General Store on March 21 and 22. Expect an eclectic mix of talent, a laid-back atmosphere, and the added bonus of craft beer and good company.
Art on Tap
The Art Assembly isn’t just about showcasing art; it’s about creating community. The mission? To connect undiscovered artists with new audiences while making art accessible to everyone. Think of it as a grassroots movement designed to amplify Saint John’s creative voices—no sterile white walls, no exclusivity, just raw, homegrown talent on display.
“We’re here to connect artists with the community and help you #DiscoverTheUndiscovered,” says co-founder Hana Coughlan, a well-established local artist whose work has been turning heads in Saint John for nearly a decade. She’s joined by fellow creatives Tony Klipin, the force behind Dachs-Republic (where salvaged materials get transformed into statement furniture and art), and Erin Safford, a painter who’s been selling commissions since she was 11 years old. Together, they’ve built a platform where artists can shine—and where the community can experience something new.
The Art, The Cause, and the Craft Beer
Beyond giving artists a space to showcase their work, The Art Assembly is also using its debut event to give back. Ten percent of all sales from the show will be donated to Pulse Saint John, a nonprofit dedicated to improving quality of life in the city’s Lower South End. The organization tackles everything from food security and financial assistance to community health programs. That means every painting, print, or sculpture sold at the pop-up isn’t just supporting an artist—it’s supporting a cause.
And because no great art show is complete without great drinks, Picaroons General Store will be pouring its signature brews all weekend long. Art, craft beer, and a good cause? Sounds like a win-win.
Meet the Artists
This lineup is anything but ordinary.
-
Keegan O’Leary: A visual artist blending skate and street art influences with fine art precision. His doodle-inspired aesthetic creates movement, energy, and intrigue.
-
Alison Davidson: A UK-born painter now based in Saint John, known for large-scale, color-drenched canvases that explore human connection.
-
Chloe McCollum: A painter with a dual approach—one deeply rooted in realism, the other abstract and emotive. Her work captures the people, places, and memories that shape her world.
-
Mary Garoutte: A multidisciplinary artist whose work explores dreams and memory through a surrealist lens. With a career spanning two decades and multiple continents, her pieces are a must-see.
-
Pam Breen-Pastirik: A professor, writer, and mixed-media artist who channels her personal journey into deeply expressive works.
-
Emily MacIsaac: A painter who rediscovered her artistic passion after moving back to Saint John, specializing in landscapes and wildlife in gouache and acrylic.

Each of these artists brings a distinct voice and vision to the table, making this show a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the depth of Saint John’s creative talent.
