Winter in New Brunswick can be isolating. The days are short, the nights are long, and sometimes, it feels easier to stay quiet. But on February 27 (tonight!), the BMO Studio Theatre will transform into a space where voices rise, stories are shared, and connections are made.
Brew. Bond. Believe
A Sip of Strength – Mental Health Coffee House isn’t just another night out—it’s an evening designed to bring the Saint John community together through the power of words and music. Hosted by the Saint John Suicide Prevention Committee and the Canadian Mental Health Association of New Brunswick (CMHA NB) Saint John office, this free event creates a space where mental health takes center stage, stigma takes a back seat, and no one has to feel alone.
More Than Just Statistics—Why This Night Matters
We talk about the weather. We talk about sports. But mental health? That conversation still feels harder to start. Meanwhile, the numbers tell a sobering story: one in five Canadians will experience a mental illness this year. In New Brunswick, suicide remains a leading cause of death among young people, with rates higher than the national average.
But here’s the hopeful part: connection is medicine. Studies show that a strong sense of community can reduce stress, improve resilience, and help people navigate mental health challenges. Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation, one story, or one song to remind someone they’re not alone.
A Lineup That Speaks to the Soul
-
Stories That Stick With You – Local poets and storytellers will take the stage, weaving words that resonate long after the night is over.
-
Music That Moves You – Live performances by local musicians will set the tone—sometimes raw, sometimes uplifting, but always real.
-
A Warm Drink & A Listening Ear – Light refreshments will be available for purchase, giving you a chance to sit back, sip, and soak it all in.
-
Support, If You Need It – Mental health resources will be on hand, ensuring that anyone seeking help knows where to turn.
