The Art of Tea: Brewing Wellness in Saint John

The art of tea comes to life in Uptown Saint John next month with expert blending tips and wellness insights. Mark your calendar for February 1st, when Handworks Gallery hosts an intimate session led by the enchanting Arlene Wilkinson of Arlene’s Garden.

Sip Smarter

This isn’t just about sipping tea—it’s about embracing a lifestyle. In this one-hour session, you’ll journey through the origins of tea and its profound health benefits while learning how to brew the perfect cup of Black, Oolong, Green, and White tea. Arlene will also introduce you to the delicate art of tea blending, sharing principles that marry function with taste. Participants will leave with a recipe guide to craft four signature blends at home—a true Hygge-inspired experience for your everyday wellness routine.

From Garden Roots to Tea Leaves

Arlene Wilkinson’s story is as layered and nuanced as her tea blends. Raised in southwestern Ontario, her upbringing was steeped in sustainable living long before it became mainstream. With an acre of cultivated land, her family’s ethos revolved around composting, recycling, and nurturing the natural world.

Today, Arlene brings over 40 years of expertise as a Massage Therapist and Eastern Wellness Practitioner to her artisanal tea company, Arlene’s Garden. Based in Saint John, this local gem sources premium Fair Trade and Ethical Tea Partnership leaves, pairing them with organic, locally grown, and wild-harvested ingredients. Each blend is a symphony of beauty, aroma, and medicinal value, crafted to support a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Brewing Balance

Whether you’re a seasoned tea enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this event is designed to inspire. Arlene’s holistic philosophy is rooted in the five elements of traditional Oriental medicine, which she weaves seamlessly into her blends. She’ll guide you through creating personalized wellness teas tailored to your unique needs, offering insights into how tea can become a meaningful part of your self-care routine.

As Arlene likes to remind us, tea is more than just a drink—it’s a reflection of our relationship with nature. Her blends are thoughtfully curated, handmade, and infused with the seasonal cycles of her garden. Even as the last herbs are harvested and dried each fall, plans for next season’s creations are already brewing.
