Aquatic education in New Brunswick is taking a bold step forward with plans for a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly aquatic training facility. This space aims to blend environmental education, skill-building, and community engagement, fostering a sustainable and inclusive future. This ambitious vision is at the heart of “Shaping Our Future NB,” an initiative designed to involve the community in shaping what could become a cornerstone of environmental stewardship and innovation in the province.

The Initiative: Building for Tomorrow
Behind this initiative is Pyroshark Diving Ltd., a federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmental responsibility through aquatic training and education. Their mission is bold yet simple: to connect people with the underwater world while fostering sustainability and inclusivity.
“This initiative is about more than a facility; it’s about creating opportunities, fostering environmental responsibility, and connecting people with the underwater world,” says Shaping Our Future NB project manager Madixx S. Russell.
As part of the early stages of this project, the group is launching a community survey to gather input from residents and organizations across the province. The aim? To understand what New Brunswickers value most in an aquatic facility. Aquatic facilities offer numerous benefits that make them valuable community assets.
From environmental and aquatic education programs to accessibility features, your voice will help shape a facility that aligns with the unique needs and aspirations of the community.
“We aim to amplify the voices of our community and design a space that reflects their vision for a sustainable and inclusive future,” says Madixx.
