Nathalie Martin has carved out a distinct niche in the dynamic artistic landscape of New Brunswick, known for her patterned art that creates a mosaic of intricate designs. Her artistic evolution is a journey from figurative art to complex patterns, each piece echoing the stages of her career and underscoring her growth from her formative years at art school to the present.
Patterns of Progress

Listen to feedback, embrace challenges, and don't get discouraged during the hard times.
Nathalie reflects on her artistic progression with a sense of reverence for her past experiences. "I cherish all the different stages I've had over time since they were a learning curve," she says. Her early works during her Bachelor of Fine Arts are especially poignant, capturing her personal and artistic development.
The Craft of Creating
Nathalie’s artistic process is meticulous, beginning with the selection of patterns, shapes, or images to fill every space of the canvas. This methodical approach not only defines her style but also has its obstacles. "The most challenging part about making my art is finding vintage source materials like magazines that are in good condition at a good price," Nathalie says. She utilizes vintage magazines and rice glue in her collages, blending nostalgia with modern artistry to create timeless pieces. "Meow," a cat collage from 2021, marks her first venture into magazine collages and holds a special significance in her portfolio.

Art and Society

Nathalie views the role of an artist as crucial within society. "I think art has the power to influence many people," she says, noting she aims to inspire and provoke thought with every one of her creations. Her commitment extends beyond the canvas as Nathalie is deeply engaged with the local artistic community through exhibitions and talks, supporting fellow artists and broadening the reach of art.
Fostering New Talent
Nathalie is passionate about guiding emerging artists, emphasizing resilience and the willingness to step outside one's comfort zone. "Listen to feedback, embrace challenges, and don't get discouraged during the hard times," she advises. Her upcoming role in a printmaking workshop highlights her dedication to art education. "I think art education is important for inspiring people. I wouldn't be here without my art educators," she reflects.

Through her creativity and community involvement, Nathalie Martin not only enriches the cultural fabric of New Brunswick but also ignites the imaginations of the next generation of artists, encouraging them to express and explore their own artistic visions.
