Bella’s Ice Cream: A Scoop of Local Flavour in Saint John

Bella's Ice Cream, founded by Derek Billingsly and Naomi Van Roosmalen, stands out as a beacon of sweet, creamy delights in the charming uptown area of Saint John, New Brunswick. This quaint ice cream shop was inspired by the couple's visit to a bustling homemade ice cream parlor in Boston, and their dream was to bring that same sense of joy and community to their hometown.

Bella's Bliss

Bella's Traditional Ice Cream is deeply rooted in the use of local and natural ingredients. The ice cream is crafted from dairy sourced directly from Maritime farmers, ensuring each scoop is as fresh as it is delicious. The shop boasts an array of flavours, from traditional favorites like cookies and cream and vanilla bean to unique concoctions like roasted banana and rum raisin. What's more, Bella's also offers a selection of vegan options, utilizing bases such as oat, almond, and coconut to cater to all preferences.

Sustainability is at the core of Bella's Ice Cream operation. The family-run business is committed to eco-friendly practices, using compostable or reusable packaging and eschewing plastic utensils in favor of more sustainable options. This dedication extends beyond their environmental impact, as they also aim to support the local economy by sourcing honey, lavender, coffee, and more from nearby suppliers.

Open daily from 12 PM to 8 PM during the week and until 5 PM on Sundays, Bella's Ice Cream is a perfect spot for a family outing or a sweet treat during a stroll through uptown Saint John. For those unable to visit, Bella's offers gift cards and engages with the community through active social media channels, ensuring everyone can enjoy a piece of their homemade goodness.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a trip to Bella's Traditional Ice Cream is a delightful journey through the flavors that define this vibrant community. It's more than just an ice cream shop; it’s a place where each scoop tells a story of local pride and sustainable choices.
