Lemongrass: The Asian Fusion Gem on Saint John’s Boardwalk

A Saint John Staple

Saint John’s food scene wouldn’t be complete without Lemongrass, the chilled-out Asian fusion restaurant that has been serving up delicious dishes since 2004.

Originally located in the Brody Building on Princess Street in Uptown Saint John, the family-owned restaurant soon found its forever home on the bustling Saint John Boardwalk. According to owner, Philip Croft, the vibe at Lemongrass has always been about great tunes, lovely attentive service, and fantastic food that encourages sharing.

Philip's Perfect Three-Course Meal at Lemongrass

We recently asked Philip for his idea of the perfect three-course meal at Lemongrass in Saint John and here’s what he told us: “My perfect three course meal would start with one of our 28 beer on tap. We have a strong focus on lots of NB's great breweries but also import beer from across Canada.” What if you don’t like beer? “If you’re not a beer fan, I would start with one of our signature cocktails that is infused with the essence of lemongrass,” he said, noting Asian ingredients like lime leaves, lemongrass and Thai basil lend themselves to a great cocktail. “The aromas and subtleties of these flavours tend to mingle really well with spirits.”

The restaurant’s best-selling appetizer is Money Bags: little packages of spiced chicken and peanuts wrapped and fried in a wonton. “Little bundles of joy,” Philip said, describing the app. “While they might be our most popular, I would generally look for one of our special bar snacks. Right now, I am really loving the Northern Thai stuffed chicken wings or Thai dumplings with chili oil. Finally, as a main I would also hit one of the many specials that we run.”

Lemongrass in Saint John makes plenty of house made curry and chili pastes that season the restaurant’s specials. “My go-to right now is the lemongrass, coconut, chili chicken served with a scallion pancake,” said Philip. “It’s a real diamond.”

All dishes at Lemongrass are made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. In additon to Philip's faves, the menu features a wide array of classic Thai soups, salads, curries, and stir-fries. The restaurant also offers vegetarian and gluten-free options for those with dietary restrictions. Lemongrass is a great choice for anyone looking for authentic Thai cuisine in Saint John. With its delicious food, friendly staff, and welcoming atmosphere, it's no surprise that it has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
